The control loop is not running — suncharge is not controlling charging. The car does whatever it does by itself; mode changes have no effect. Restart the service (sudo systemctl restart suncharge).
Hands off — Tesla API is refusing suncharge. It won't start, stop or adjust charging; use the Tesla app for now. Checks back hourly and resumes by itself (top up credit at developer.tesla.com).

Control charging

When off, suncharge only watches — it won't start, stop or adjust the car.

Away

On while the car is somewhere else — suncharge leaves it alone. Flips on by itself if the car reports it's away from home.

Default mode

Where charging starts every time the car plugs in at home. A Charge-now / Pause timer or an Overcast target also falls back here.

Smart charging

Smart mode guarantees the target by the deadline, using the sun first and topping up from the grid only as a last resort.
